Is a Vegan Diet Necessary for Cancer Patients?

We recommend an alkaline diet.  While an alkaline diet does rely heavily on plants, it is a plant-based diet not a vegan diet.  What that means is that you eat foods that balance each other in terms of acid forming vs. alkaline forming.  Plants are generally alkaline forming where milk, meat, fish, poultry and legumes are acid forming.  Please see the Founder's white paper entitled Nutrition Information Every Cancer Patient Should Know.

What is wrong with eating bread?

Bread is generally made from wheat.  Wheat is not recommended for anyone with chronic disease as it causes inflammation in the gut.  You need your gut to fight cancer - it houses 80% of your immune function and needs to be healthy.  The wheat of today is not the wheat of times past.  Modern wheat has been bred to contain up to 60% gluten so that it can be handled well by machinery, where wild wheat had only 5% gulten.  Gluten, or Wheat Germ Agglutinin (WGA), is extremely irritating to your digestive system.  Please see The Darker Side of Wheat by Sayer Ji for further information.

If you can find a sprouted, organic bread with no potato flour, sugar or eggs, made from buckwheat, rice, quinoa, amaranth or millet, that would be a good choice.  You can also make it yourself and The Cancer Alternative Wellness Center, among other nutritionally oriented programs, provides assistance to adopt a healthy alkaline diet including recipes.

Should I avoid sugar?

Yes, you should avoid all forms of sugar when fighting cancer.  That includes more than a small amount of fruit in a single serving (1 cup), honey, sugar, corn syrup, agave, molassas - any form of sweetener.  Sugar accellerates cancer progression and should be avoided from all sources, since even grains and vegetables contain a certain amount of sugar.  Recommendations range from limiting sugar to only 15 grams per day from all sources, to up to 40 grams.  We also recommend avoiding all chemical sugar substitutes as research indicates them to be carcinogenic as they change cellular metabolism.

What about fruit?  Fruit has sugar in it, but it also has incredible cancer fighting nutrition according to what I have been reading.

Cancer patients must strike a balance between using the healing nutrients of fruit and avoiding excess sugar (see previous question).

We recommend keeping your daily fruit consumption from all sources to 1-2 cups.  We also recommend you keep your overall daily sugar consumption to less than 40 grams, including from grains, yams and other root vegetables as well as fruits.  Since all cancer patients need to drink carrot and beet juice, you might want to save your sugar grams for these high-sugar vegetables.

You will need to learn the sugar content of raw foods and read package labels carefully to achieve this goal.  It is best that you are eating whole foods that don't have packages or labels, however!

In fact, fructose - which is in fruit and also in high fructose corn syrup - has been found to promote cancer progression two or three times faster than glucose, particularly with pancreatic cancer.  See this article for the scientific data.  It may explain why lifetime fructarian Steve Jobs was not ultimately successful using alternative cancer treatments.  Perhaps the fructose impact won out over the nutritional value of fruits.

Is it OK to use artificial sweeteners?

The short form answer is no, it is not OK to use artificial sweetener or anything artificial when you are fighting cancer.  Clean, organic, natural foods, mostly vegetables, mostly raw, is what you are aiming for.  The only non-nutritive sweetener that is acceptable is pure, 100% organic stevia leaf.  This is not the stevia brand, Truvia, which has sugar esters in it.  Just plain organic stevia leaf.

Dairy products have been linked with cancer.  But probiotics are important for cancer patients.  What about yogurt?

The main protein in cow's milk, casein protein, is an incredibly sticky protein.  It is extremely hard to digest and is therefore very acid forming.  Casein protein has been identified as one of the most cancer promoting foods by National Institute of Health-sponsored studies directed by T. Colin Campbell, PhD. Cornell University.   Though some of his macro-level conclusions from his landmark vegan-oriented book, The China Study, were controversial, the conclusions about milk casein protein appear well supported.

Casein protein is so acid forming that even though milk has quite a lot of calcium (and has been for years been touted as good for your bones), the amount of calcium needed to offset the acidity created by casein protein digestion is greater than what the milk itself contains.

Milk is not only a net user of calcium (generally pulled from the bones) but a net contributor of acid into the body.  With cancer you are trying to avoid highly acid-forming foods.  Thus milk products - yes even yogurt and especially low fat, high protein Greek yogurt - are off the list.  We recommend a daily dose of probiotics from another source such as kim chi, coconut yogurt or organic, non-dairy supplements.

Note: Russian cancer patients trying alternatives who continued to eat yogurt (an important food in Russian cooking) and sour cream, found dairy consumption undermined their alternative healing progress, as reported by providers of alternative therapies interviewed by The Cancer Alternative research team.

I heard that black pepper should be avoided.  Is that true?

Pepper is a subject of some controversy amongst nutritional healers.  In Europe, many natural healing professionals advise that you avoid it.  In Asia and in Ayervedic medicine, it is considered healing, essential for cancer treatment and a catalyst for the efficacy of certain herbs such as turmeric.  We believe that moderation (a teaspoon a day or less) is the key to enjoying black pepper as part of a healthy anti-cancer diet.

I have breast cancer and am afraid of the chemotherapy.  What else can I do?

As with every type of cancer, the most important first step is to change your diet to focus on vegetables, eliminate sugars and grains and limit protein.  Please see these diet recommendations for more details.

We recommend an evaluation of your situation to discuss blood type, previous treatments, etc. before this question can be answered specifically in an actionable fashion.

However, surgery may be a good first line of defense and likely your doctor is recommending it.  You may find a lumpectomy is sufficient as a starting point, but if you opt for this surgery make sure it is laser surgery

Laser surgery does not break open the tumor and spread cancer cells throughout the body.  The laser cauterizes the wound and seals it from spreading cancer cells that could cause metastasis later on.

Laser surgery is often a good way to start, as then if you use alternatives such as immune therapies, detoxification, frequency therapy or mineral therapy, there will be less cancer mass for the body to deal with, which speeds the process.  For more information, contact us.

Alkaline mineral therapy is particularly helpful for breast and lymph cancer, as is cannabis oil.

What alternative treatments work for glioblastoma?

You will need a comprehensive review of your particular health condition to answer that question in an actionable fashion.

However, a non-swelling treatment is best, as glios can put pressure on the brain and the treatments that create swelling increase that pressure.  Our conclusion based on many studies performed in the UK and Europe is that medical cannabis oil is extremely effective for brain cancers and does not cause swelling.  It appears that this is the preferred therapy for glios along with an alkaline, low protein, low carbohydrate, moderate to high fat diet focused on coconut oil, avocado oil, olive oil, green vegetables, nuts, seeds and algaes such as seaweed, spirulina and chlorella.

Other elements for brain cancer that are extremely helpful in addition to the cannabis oil are: boswellia, milk thistle, coconut oil and turmeric/curcumin, along with carrot and beet juice, vitamin C, vitamin D3, detoxification therapies, enzyme therapy, iodine treatments, hydrogen peroxide and possibly certain Chinese medicines (such as the ingredients found in TBL-12 / sea creatures) are all non-swelling, effective immune support therapies that will not irritate the brain. Every supplement has a specific therapeutic effective dose that can only be determined through personal evaluation.  These herbal and sea remedies must be used in conjunction with an alkaline diet.

Another approach is to use frequency therapy.  We have researched both the Microstimula or the QRS-101 and encourage you to speak to the Microstimula inventor about your condition or Essense-of-Life about the QRS-101.  There are other frequency therapy machines available on the market but Microstimula is small, portable and inexpensive.  The QRS-101 is an FDA approved medical device.  It is used by doctors and hospitals for healing various tissue injuries.

Alkaline minerals are very effective, but because they cause cancer cells to swell, mineral therapy can put pressure on the brain.  Therefore considering other options is wise, at least as a preliminary approach.  If you start with cannabis oil and frequency therapy, after a month or two you will likely be able to safely use alkaline mineral therapy as the tumors will be much smaller.

What is the best alternative for CLL or other leukaemias?

A better question is to ask what is the strongest cancer therapy available.

Leukaemias and multiple myeloma are by definition systemic, stage four cancers at diagnosis (throughout the body) and need a whole-body approach from the beginning.

From our experience, pH mineral therapy combined with an alkaline diet and other nutritional and immune support supplements is the strongest available therapy, and particularly effective for bone and blood cancers.  See the founder's white paper on why this works, Why An Alkaline Approach can Successfully Treat Cancer.

The Microstimula and the QRS-101 are reported to be successful for leukaemias, though our own research on how long it takes and how long it lasts is ongoing.  We have seen demonstrated effectiveness (improvement/remission) short term (6 months or less) and are waiting for more information on long-term effectiveness.  You could try a combination of frequency therapy along with minerals and nutritional supplementation for a one-two punch.

Prostate cancer is slow growing, so I am not worried, but what can I do to stop it altogether?

You are right, you have more time than most people with cancer if you have a prostate cancer diagnosis.  Diet changes are your first line of defense, particularly the elimination of meat, dairy, sugar, bread and alcohol.  All the alkaline diet recomendations mentioned above apply to you.

Then, you have some options.  A great many people have reported success using alkaline mineral therapy in urinary tract cancers, particularly germanium in combination with the typical alkaline supplementation.  We have direct experience with cancer patients who had bladder and prostate cancer, and experienced remission in a few months of such a program.

Other therapies are also successful - Microstimula, traditional Chinese medicine, cannabis oil and others.  Please contact us  for a personal discussion.

I have had pancreatic cancer for some time.  Chemotherapy is not working.  Suggestions?

Again, to provide an actionable answer, it is important to fully evaulate your particular situation.

However, success against pancreatic cancer has been reported with cannabis oil, pH mineral therapy, frequency therapy and a complete elimination of sugars from all sources including fruits, along with an alkaline diet.

Please contact the Wellness Center for a personal discussion.

My cancer is progressing no matter what the doctors do.  How can I slow it down to have time to apply other recovery techniques?

The fastest method for slowing cancer progression we have investigated is to use the hydrazine sulfate protocol developed by the Syracuse Cancer Institute.  Our direct experience is that if your cancer can be slowed, you will see results within a week or two.  At the same time, you must apply an extremely strict version of the alkaline diet including juicing and green smoothies, and begin a strong anti-cancer program that includes multiple nutritional supplementation components.

You need an evaluation of your situation by a qualified provider and support through this process.  A qualified naturopathic doctor (ND) in your area can be found by using the directory at http://naturopathic.org.  The Cancer Alternative Wellness Center team can help you evaluate your naturopath options once you have located one in your area, based on previous patient outcomes, education and experience.

Depending on the type of cancer, application of alkaline mineral therapy is often a very good solution in conjunction with hydrazine suphate plus use of EMF therapy.  In other words, a belt and suspenders approach.  Most people with serious progression must take at least 6 months of rigorous combination therapy before daring to drop or slow one of the components.

Hydrazine suphate may be used just until the cancer progression stops, but the rest of your program must be applied without even one day off for six months, then continue with good care for another two years.  Rule of thumb is 1 month of healing application for every year of illness, plus 8 months (for the development of detectable cancer, which takes 6-8 years), plus one year.  At that point you can feel comfortable that you are not at risk of rapid relapse.

However your diet changes and use of herbals and supplementation to keep your immune system strong are a lifestyle that must continue.  Those who go back to their old lifestyle will recreate the conditions for cancer to start up again.

What about alkaline water?  Should I buy a machine?

We have been contacted by various alkaline water companies asking us to include their machines as part of our recommendations for cancer-recovery. However, independent research raises a concern about alkaline water.  Alkaline water has no mineral content.  Therefore, it can act as a mineral-depletion agent in the body.  Cancer patients should be focused on balancing cellular level alkalinity and increased mineralization, while working to eliminate contaminants such as pesticides, heavy metals and radiation from their environment and body.

While alkaline water can help short term with detoxification, we cannot recommend it for long-term use because of the concern about overall bone and tissue demineralization.  Purified water is a good idea, however.  If you need to buy a machine, we recommend a reverse-osmosis machine that has a mineral cartridge to finish the product.  Otherwise seek out pure natural spring or artisian well water or purified bottled water.  Bottled water is sometimes nothing more than bottled tap water, so do check the analysis and source on-line before committing to a brand.

You should not consume chlorine or fluoride while engaged in cancer recovery or at any point thereafter.

What are the most important foods to eat on an alkaline program?

The most important foods to eat every day are:  asparagus; broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts and bok choi; dark leafy, greens such as kale and chard; bitter greens such as fennel, escarole and endive; fresh carrot juice or carrot-beet juice; raw and cooked carrots and beets;  nuts:  almonds, bitter almonds (apricot seeds), macademia nuts and pumpkin seeds.  These foods are highly alkaline, support immune function and have direct cancer-fighting properties.

When cooking, it is important to incorporate garlic, leek, scallion, chive and shallot daily (note onion is not in this list), as well as herbs and spices such as cilantro (corriander greens), basil, parsley, turmeric (yellow curry), ginger, cinnamon, black cumin (nigella) seeds and cayenne pepper.

Green herbs such as parsley, basil, cilantro and rosemary are highly alkaline as well as performing a detoxification function.  Sudies compiled on Green Med Info indicate that nigella, tumeric, ginger, cinnamon and cayenne, among other plants, all have direct anti-cancer properties and should be consumed daily.
